The College has today officially launched the inaugural Somerset Gift, to be held at the Somerset College Athletics Facility on 15 July 2017. The Gift will provide aspiring athletes with the opportunity to compete for a prize pool of over $19,000.

Joining our students in making the announcement was channel 9 Gold Coast presenter Dominique Louden along with Ignition Athletes including our very own Somerset Alumni Alex Beck. One athlete lending her support to the event is Somerset Gift Ambassador Toea Wisil, who recently took out both the 100m and 200m events at the Australian Athletics Championship in Sydney. Wisil – who is based at Somerset and trains under the guidance of Ignition Athletics Coach Tony Fairweather said the event will be “a great opportunity to promote the sport of Athletics at a first class facility.”

The Gift will feature a variety of events including the 100m, one mile, and 300m races for various age groups. Registration fees vary from $25 for the main events through to $5 for the age races. One of the benefits for Somerset College students is that they will be able to enter the age races for free.

Registration for the event is open until 16 June and more information including sponsorship opportunities can be found on the event website.
