With the 2018 Commonwealth Games fast approaching our Swimming Pool was the perfect site for a media conference on Wednesday morning, as Swimming Canada officially announced Somerset College as their training camp venue.

On hand to make the announcement were Swimming Canada’s High Performance Director John Atkinson, Embracing 2018 Advisory Committee Member and former Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Julie McDonald, and our very own Dean of Activities Mr Craig Sayer. The trio were well supported by students Brooke Otto, CJ Licuanan and Bianca Crisp, along with 2016 Paralympian Nic Beveridge and Olympian James Roberts.

Coordinated by Reg Roberts of the Office of Commonwealth Games, the event was attended by local media outlets who interviewed and photographed the various representatives. Throughout the morning our students took the opportunity to interact with the current and former Olympian’s who were able to share their own experiences and ideas, before showcasing our facilities to the media.

Swimming Canada will start their Commonwealth Games preparation when their training camp commences here at Somerset College in March 2018.
