Swimming Academy

Squads

The training squads at the Academy are designed to test swimmers’ ability and promote both technique and speed development. Swimmers are introduced to a variety of training techniques to increase their ability.

There are five broad squad levels based on the training ability of the swimmer. Current squads’ training times can be found in the Somerset Swimming Academy Brochure available at the pool reception. Brief descriptions of the squad levels are outlined below.

Junior Intermediate Prep (JIP)

Swimmers must be competent in all four strokes to reach this level. This squad is designed for junior swimmers aiming to improve their skills, fitness and racing ability.

Junior Intermediate (JI)

Swimmers in this level have shown they have the capacity to excel at squad training. The squad is designed for junior swimmers with a focus on improving fitness, training skills and racing strategies.

State Prep (SP)

Swimmers in this squad demonstrate a high level of training ability. The squad is designed for advanced junior swimmers who are looking to qualify for and compete at the State Championships.

State (STATE)

Swimmers in this squad have demonstrated their abilities at State Championship level. The squad is designed for swimmers who are competing at State level and looking to qualify for National Age Championships.

National (NAT)

Swimmers in this squad have demonstrated their ability at National Championship level. The squad is designed for swimmers who are competing at National Championships and beyond. Invitation by Head Coach only.
