60 pizzas, 100 students and some books. What more could you ask for on a Monday night? This week the Junior School came together with their parents, Year 6 volunteers and Senior Bibliotheca Committee to celebrate reading aloud for our annual Pyjama Party.
The Reading Hour promotes that in children, reading has been shown to help with identity formation and setting them up for success in the future. But it wasn’t all about the students. In adults, reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68 per cent more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea.
The night was a complete success with parents reading to children, children reading to parents and children reading to other children. By far the favourite room was the ‘in the dark’ room where children read using torches. I also heard some amazing accents being used for different characters.
Thank you to all who helped out including the Year 6 volunteers and Bibliotheca Committee and a massive thank you to Mrs Walsh and Mrs Vanderwerff for their amazing vision and organisation. I can’t wait to see what next year brings.
