Our year 8 students Emma Mollard, Matilda Thompson and Evie Wilson were finalists in the prestigious Mayor's Technology and Innovation Awards (MTIA) held at Bond University on Thursday 3 October.

The event, run by Experience Gold Coast together with Bond University, City of Gold Coast and Cohort Innovation space brought together young innovators who focused on key community needs in the areas of Place, Prosperity and People.

Students were supported by Mr Smith, Mr U'ren and Ms Thomson, to present their idea SafetyAIr; using drones with cameras to survey council owned footpaths to identify cracks and trip hazards in pathways and feedback to City council to get them attended to.

The group presented their five minute pitch on the night to a jury and walked away with the Peoples Choice Award. As a result of this they have now been invited to the Bond University demo day to present this idea to entrepreneurs who may be able to develop their ideas further.
