Spartan Rugby

Rugby Union at Somerset College is offered to boys in Year 4 to Year 12 for APS. The four core values of respect, commitment, brotherhood and success are developed through the medium of Rugby Union. We have also opened the programme to girls from varied age groups to compete in tournaments.

The College has had recent success at APS level winning the 1st XV premiership in 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2019 as well as being finalists in 2013, 2015 and 2016. 

Year 6 players have had the opportunity to travel to Armidale to compete in the exclusive TAS tournament. Underage tours to New Zealand, Hong Kong and Hawaii have been recent additions. The highlight for many senior players is the two week biennial Rugby Tour to Canada of which there have been six tours since 2008. Through these tour opportunities, our students have the opportunity to further develop their teamwork, skills and grit in game situations. 

Rugby Pathway

As part of our Rugby programme we look for opportunities to further engage our students in ways that develop them as individuals and as part of a team. As such, our players engage in community and service events as ways to give back to the community, leadership camps and workshops.

Somerset College does all it can to give our children the best opportunities in whatever pursuits they choose. Their Rugby Programme is no exception – professionally run and equipping players with the foundations of success through appropriate training, nutrition, leadership and teamwork. Backed up with superb facilities and coaching staff, Somerset Rugby has made an invaluable contribution to the development of both our boys.
