The Junior School Inter-House Competition was held last Friday after school, and each of the five Houses fielded six players in their head-to-head clashes. Laver won the Championship for the second year running, in an evening that was once again great fun to be a part of.
Inter-House Chess brings out an interesting dynamic where Somerset students, used to playing side-by-side against teams from other schools, have to do battle against each other. In the end, the Laver team – Eason Wang, Kenny Ming, Raphael Atia, Aadi Rai, Jack Walker, James Hartley and Liam Hartley – won by a comfortable margin, defeating other teams in all matches. Second was Franklin and third place went to Andrews. Final team scores (two points for a win and 1 for a tie):
The Junior Masters was held last weekend and the One Day Challenge was held on Sunday, with a total 14 Somerset students participating. Notable results in the Junior Masters: Eason Wang and Jason Li with 4.5/7 and equal sixth place. Top performers in the One Day Challenge: Calen Tang (6/9 and = seventh place), Advait Naik (5.5/9), Aadi Rai (5/9), Bobby Long (5/9) and Tamar Chester-Haviv (5/9).
