Congratulations to Darcy Halloran (5P) who competed in the State Cross Country Championships at Maroochydore last weekend. Well done to Harry Powell (5W) who travelled to Cairns during the holidays for the State Under 12 Hockey Championships.
Darcy finished 18th overall and was the first-placed finisher from South Coast region to cross the line in the Under 10 age group. In the relay event, Darcy’s ran an incredible 'first leg' for the South Coast team, which allowed them to earn the bronze medal. What a wonderful effort!
Harry's region for Hockey, South Coast finished second in the tournament. Harry had a busy holiday, also travelling to Mackay to compete in the Under 13 state titles.
AFL Auskick is once again coming to Somerset College! The first session will take place on Tuesday 31 July from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Wyangan Oval and will run for six weeks. The cost is only $75 for these six sessions and when you participate you receive your very own football and backpack. This is strictly only open to Somerset College students from Prep to Year 3.

Tennis at Somerset in the Junior School has had a busy start to the term. We would like to welcome on board new coach Lachie Treacher who believes the future is looking bright for the sport at a Junior level. Some new features of the programe include our own Orange Ball fixtures, which begin Friday at 4.30pm. Spots are still available for any student is interested in being involved. Saturday lessons are also available for all ages and levels of ability.
Sharni Norman and Patrick Deacon will be representing the College this Sunday at the Red Tournament series. The Orange Tournament Series is also occurring 5 August and we are looking for more talented players to enter. This is a great opportunity to experience match play. On the same day, Fynn Busuttin, Orion Burdett and Kai Norman are travelling to the Brisbane for the Super 10’s Tennis Trials hosted at Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson. We wish them all the best!

A reminder to all parents and students in Year 3 to 6, that the 2018 Junior School Inter-House Athletics Carnival will be taking place on Friday and Saturday 27 and 28 July. Both of these are all day events from 8.30am to 3.30pm and all students are expected to attend. Dress is Sports kit with House T-shirt, hat and water bottle. It is also recommended that children bring a packed lunch on both of these days. Students who are present on the Saturday receive a day in lieu on Thursday 30 August prior to the Gold Coast Show Day on Friday 31 August.
