The Spartans Football Club played away games in the Football Gold Coast Miniroos Competition. In Round 19 we had all four teams playing.
The Spartans Under 9s couldn’t take a win over Musgrave, due to the physical difference between the teams. Players from the opposition were a few months older than our Spartans. Despite the physical set back, the team tried hard and played good at times. Next week during the presentation day, the players will take on their parents, a match we are very much looking forward to.
Due to absence from Coach Cooper, the team was instead coached by Coach Trent. The kids were ready to play under their new coach and had an easy win. Most impressively, players were more excited about assisting teammates with plays rather than making attempts to always score themselves.
These Spartans played well on Saturday. From scoring a couple of fast break early goals from the first whistle, the maintained momentum throughout the match. Mudgeeraba managed to score a couple, putting us on the back foot at times. On reflection, these plays could have been handled and defended better with focus and concentration.
The first half of the match ended at 2-all with a well-matched game. Somerset defended very well. The second half Palm Beach manage to score another two goals, resulting in a final score of 4 to 2. A good game overall and well played by both teams.
On Saturday August 24 we have home games and our Presentation Day. We have organised activities for all age groups before and after their game.
