Swimming Nationals

The Australian School Swimming Titles were held in Sydney in August from 22 to 29 with Senior School students competing in the first part of the week while the Junior School students followed.

The Somerset Swim Club had 12 students compete at the Championships with four more Somerset College Students also competing for Queensland. There were some exceptional results from those attending as follows:

• Ryan Bambach – 15 years 1st 100m Breaststroke, 3rd 200 IM, 5th 50m Freestyle, 3rd 50m Breaststroke, 2nd 400 IM, 4th 100m Freestyle,
• Kyla Brown – 17 years 2nd 100m Breaststroke, 2nd 50m Breaststroke, 3rd 200m Breaststroke
• Holly Hembling – 16 years 1st 50m Breaststroke
• Sasha Henrison – 16 years 4th 100m Breaststroke, 3rd 50m Freestyle
• Leny Grigor – 14 years 3rd 200 IM, 2nd 200 Butterfly, 1st 400 IM *National record
• Cohen Tarrant – 13 years 1st 100m Breaststroke, 3rd 50m Breaststroke
• Meggie De Chhimba – 10 years 6th 100m Breaststroke
• Ciara Fay – 17 years 3rd 200 IM, 400 IM
• Charlotte Gavenlock – 14 years 9th 200m Backstroke, 8th 50m Backstroke
• Matilda Grimson – 14 years 3rd Backstroke, 4th 100m Backstroke, 6th 50m Backstroke
• Zahri Jarrett – 14 years 2nd 200m Freestyle, 4th 400m Freestyle, 4th 50m Freestyle, 1st 100m Freestyle
• Summer Johnston – 13 years 6th 50m Freestyle, 5th 100m Backstroke
• Jessica Melo – 14 years 2nd 50m Backstroke
• Makyra Melo – 11 years 10th 50m Butterfly, 4th 100m Freestyle, 2nd 50m Breaststroke, 7th 50m Freestyle
• Koa Stotz – 13 years 2nd 100m Breaststroke, 1st 50m Breaststroke
• Riley Johnston – 13 years 3rd 100m Breaststroke, 6th 50m Freestyle, 2nd 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 6th 200m Breaststroke

Special congratulations go to Leny Grigor who broke the 400m IM National record in winning this event. Also, Somerset Swim Club members Koa Stotz, Cohen Tarrant and Riley Johnston who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke!
