Queensland State School Swimming Championships
There were some outstanding performances through the week for Somerset with many swimmers making individual finals, a great effort in itself, as well as quite a few medal winning performances.
As the South Coast Region is very strong at swimming, many of the swimmers contributed significantly to the medals won in the Regional relay events.
The Junior swimmers who made performed exceptionally were:
- Max Allars (11 years) – bronze in both Freestyle and Medley relays, 6th in 100m Freestyle, silver in 100m Breaststroke and 4th in 50m Breaststroke
- Cooper Anderson (10 years) – silver in Freestyle relay
- Jaxson Brimble (12 Years) – silver in Medley Relay and 9th in 100m Breaststroke
- Bessie Dear (11 years) – gold in Freestyle relay (record) and 10th in 50m Freestyle
- Malorie Gell (10 years) – 9th in 100m Freestyle and 5th in 50m Breaststroke
- Gisele Howard (11 years) – 5th in 50m Butterfly
- Noah Lynch (10 years) – 8th in 50m Breaststroke
- Tara Newton (12 years) – 4th in 400m Freestyle
- Valentina Pesovic (11 years) – 7th in 100m Butterfly
- Angus Sheehan (12 years) – 7th in 100m Freestyle
- Belle Sly (11 years) – 6th in 100m Butterfly
- James Sneesby (12 years) – silver in Medley relay and gold in Freestyle relay, 4th in 50m Backstroke, 5th in 100m Backstroke and 7th in 50m Freestyle
- Ava Usher (11 years) – gold in both Medley and Freestyle (record) relays, 9th in 100m Freestyle, bronze in 50m Butterfly and silver in 50m Freestyle
The Senior swimmers who performed exceptionally were:
- Maddy Allars (15 years) – 5th in 50m Freestyle, 9th in 200m Freestyle, 10th in 400m Freestyle and 5th in 100m Freestyle
- Connor Borkowsky (16 years) – gold in both 100m and 200m Freestyle, silver in 400m Freestyle and bronze in Freestyle relay
- Brodie Brown (13 years) – 5th in 200m Freestyle, bronze in 400m Freestyle and 7th in 100m Freestyle
- Ky Codd (16 years) – 7th in 100m Breaststroke, 5th in 50m Breaststroke and gold in Medley relay
- Mia Collins (14 years) – silver in Freestyle relay
- Cameron Donovan (14 years) – 4th in 100m Breaststroke, silver in both Freestyle and Medley relays, gold in 50m Breaststroke and 6th in 200m Breaststroke
- Millie Entwistle (14 years) – 4th in 50m Backstroke and bronze in Medley relay
- Andrew Parkinson (17 years) – 7th in 50m MC Freestyle, 5th in 50m MC Backstroke and 5th in 50m MC Breaststroke
- Leon Shirayama (17 years) – 7th in 50m Freestyle, 5th in 100m Breaststroke, bronze in 100m Butterfly, gold in Medley relay, bronze in Freestyle relay, bronze in 50m Butterfly and silver in 50m Breaststroke
- Harrison Smith (17 years) – gold in 100m Breaststroke, gold in Medley relay, gold in 50m Breaststroke and silver in 200m Breaststroke Hugo Vitiello (14 years) – silver in Freestyle relay
Well done to all of the Somerset swimmers who competed at the Championships over the course of the week and the coaches who attended. At this stage it appears as though Max Allars, Ava Usher, Leon Shirayama, Harrison Smith and Connor Borkowsky have qualified to be selected on the Queensland School Swimming Team to compete in Hobart later this year at the National Titles.
