Two Somerset teams who entered made it into the top division of the Under 12 Queensland School Futsal Cup early this month.
Coach Jonno
A challenge ahead with only two players having the age of Under 12. With thanks to our Under 11 students, we were able to get a competitive team together. On Day 1, the boys came narrowly second in the group stage. On Day 2, We progressed into finals for the top division with seven other best placed schools.
The boys showed great display in the quarter finals and qualified for the semi-final. Although they lost the semi-final to a very good St Lawrence team, every player showed fantastic commitment and resilience! Moving into the third place playoff game for a third place finish, the boys started strong but unfortunately came up short, losing the game.
All players represented the school with great character on and off the field in their first time competing in this tournament.
Well done, Max Bowden, Liam Seymour, Mila Oldfield, Harper Loon, Zhander Griffiths, Connor Millar-Martin, Oliver Ng, Benedict Thompson, and Paxton Stewart.
Coach Nigel
The young Spartans played a total of three matches and stayed undefeated on Day 1. Finishing Day 1 top of their pool, qualifying for the finals in the top division. Day 2 saw the team continue to play some amazing futsal progressing to the semi-finals, losing against a strong Stretton SS. After a tight third place play-off game, the Spartans finished fourth.
This was a fantastic result by such a young team lead by Year 6 student Evie May Coates.
Well done Arianna Reading, Mayuko Takahata, Luella Zerbst, Audrey Hilbert, Bronte Butler, Robin Wang, Edith Hilbert, and Imogen Sounness.
After day one of the tournament, the schools were graded into the Cup and Shield divisions. Our Head of Football and Futsal very satisfied with both teams reaching the Cup division. With both teams having a lot of players playing a year level up. We are extremely proud of ending fourth place.
